I have always had the desire of pursuing a course majoring in sciences for a long time. My main interest lied in the field of medical sciences but I had no specific idea of the best course to pursue in that discipline.
My desire to study a course in the medical field was greatly influenced by my mother. My mother is a certified cosmetologist. Since when I was in the lower grade, I noted that she had a strong passion of helping other people.
She used to spend a lot of her time in her salon attending to her customers; more than she would even spend at home. Sometimes she would even prematurely call-off a vacation to go and check on her clients. She really loved her job and she was very passionate about it.
When I was growing up, I drew a lot of motivation from her. I was driven by the desire to follow my passion just like my mother. My aim was to take a course that would enable me to have a direct impact on people’s lives.
When I joined high school, I began researching about a course that I would pursue within the medical field, because this is where my passion lied. From my research, I noted that the medical field is quite wide and there are a dozen of courses to choose from.
Luckily enough, I was excelling in sciences. Chemistry was my favorite subject. I loved studying biology as well and I excelled in it. I therefore decided that I would pursue a course that has chemistry as one of its core subjects.
I loved studying chemistry because it enabled me to have a better understanding of the nature of chemicals. In high school, we studied various types of chemicals and how they affect the universe and creatures living in it.
Sciences, especially chemistry plays a big role in the medical field. Most of the drugs and other components that are used in hospitals are chemical components. I started gaining a lot of interest with what pharmacists do.
Pharmacy is the science that links health sciences and chemical sciences. This discipline covers a wide scope that includes compounding and dispensing of medications, heath care, and also reviewing medications for their safety and efficacy.
Unlike in the traditional set-up, modern day pharmacists have a direct interaction with the people. In industries, pharmacists are involved in the manufacture of drugs that are used to treat various illnesses.
A pharmacist can dispense drugs and also offer other clinical services to patients. Basically, pharmacists are experts on drug therapy and they are also the chief health professionals who enhance the use of drugs for the benefit of patients.
By the time I was joining college, I had already made up my mind that I would pursue pharmacy. I knew that it would be a tough journey of five years but I was already prepared for it. I knew that pharmacy would give me the opportunity that I have always desired of helping other people.
